I am frustrated by the common use in the game today of the term “grand slam” when talking about one of the four major tournaments. A grand slam is a very rare achievement in which a player wins all four majors in a calendar year. Only five players have ever done it: Don Budge (1938); Maureen Connelly (1953); Rod Laver twice (1962 and 1969); Margaret Court (1970); and Steffi Graf (1989). This constant wrong usage by tennis commentators, players, and writers needs to STOP! The powers that be seem to want to make one event sound more grandiose than it actually is in order to draw more viewers to the sport. Could you please address this in an upcoming editorial or article?

The article by Ashley stimpson about the indigo snake does not once mention if it is venomous or not yes I can look it up but it would have been nice to know thanks

I had SI for years. Now it’s become TIME with a ball. And they went to monthly with a “coffee table” type mag. Don’t like it anymore. Too PC for me..I’m old school..give me highlights, comments, player profiles, etc. every week. Sports is crap right now with Virus stuff, but I want up to date info every week.Think I’ll try ESPN mag.

This isn’t really an “outdoors” magazine that has beta on routes or deep info on backcountry trails but they do a great job with features on people and also on food and travel type of stuff for people who like to get outdoors. I like it so far.

An absolutely fantastic magazine. One year of Bacpacker will give you enough hiking and camping spots to last a lifetime. Quality publication through and through.

Solid outdoors magazine. Nothing groundbreaking, no pulitzer prize award winning stories here but entertaining each and every month.

Outside is OK but their content is a little far-reaching for me sometimes. I do have to give them credit for their feature stories, though. Features are kind of a lost art these days, but they do a good job with them.

Backpacker does a tremendous job of covering the ENTIRE U.S., not just the popular hiking and backpacking spots that everyone knows about. I actually rip out pages and save them for later.

Decent magazine for outdoor types. A little too general sometimes but they do cover it all.

I can’t sing the praises of Backpacker enough. There is only one magazine that I have ever read cover to cover and it is Backpacker each and every time. I’ve learned about so many great spots around the country and their outdoor tips are incredible.

Outside combines some really good articles with excellent gear reviews. You can’t go wrong with this one, I have read it since it first came out.

SI used to be a good sports magazine, but just as the world of sports has changed, so has SI. Mostly for the worse. They aren’t the giant they used to be.

I agree with LJ, ESPN mag rules the sports magazine world. SI has one good issue every year and it’s the swimsuit one.

Backpacker is filled with useful tips about camping, backpacking, hiking, etc. I save all of my old copies and go back to re-read them constantly before I hit the backcountry.
